Bose introduced a new wireless portable speaker on Tuesday. For $219, the SoundLink Home is a relatively small addition to the lineup, with “premium sound” and about nine hours of battery life.
The SoundLink Home is pretty “mini” for a home-branded speaker: 8.5 inches tall, 4.4 inches wide, and 2.3 inches deep. It weighs 1.93 pounds (0.88 kg). It shouldn’t be difficult to move it from room to room or find an open spot on a table or desk.
The small size often means the sound is muffled, but Bose promises its dual passive radiators will produce “deep bass that fills any room.” The company also says it has “premium sound” with “excellent acoustics”. The company can squeeze surprisingly powerful sound into small packages, as evidenced by its SoundLink Flex lineup (more on that in a second).
SoundLink Home refuses access to the Bose app, so if you want to adjust EQ levels, you’ll have to adjust your source audio. In addition to Bluetooth 5.3 (including multipoint!), it allows you to add a USB-C cable for wired access. The speaker also has a built-in microphone for accessing the voice assistant or using it as a speakerphone for calls.
You can also use its bundled USB-C cable to charge, and Bose says it will go from empty to full in about four hours. You can wirelessly link it to a second device for a stereo setup.
As you can see from the photos, it is a sleek looking little speaker. Its body is made of anodized aluminum and features a “high-quality” fabric grill and built-in kickstand.
Bose SoundLink Home is now available exclusively on the company’s website. You can buy it in gray and silver colors. The speaker is priced at $219 and (at least to me) suggests immediate shipping.
Bose SoundLink Flex
The company recently updated the SoundLink Flex, a pill-shaped portable speaker that was one of Engadget’s picks. best bluetooth speakers. Unlike the first version (and SoundLink Home), this second-generation model now connects to the Bose app. There you can make EQ adjustments and save stereo pairing links with other compatible Bose speakers. The new version supports AAC and aptX audio codecs and comes in a new Alpine Sage color.
