The the first of two Sea of stars next year’s content updates have an official release date. Free the dawn of the equinoxThe co-op mode is coming to all platforms on November 12, adding new combat and other features.
Announced in March, the dawn of the equinox adds new game modes and mechanics for our beloved Moon-Sun heroes Valere and Zale. It includes a new local co-op mode that lets you and two friends play the entire game together. Each player has independent movement around the world (as long as you stay within the confines of the screen), and there’s a new co-op Timed Hits feature that turns one of the game’s core mechanics into a group effort.
The update also includes Combat 2.0, which adds some fun wrinkles Sea of stars‘ battles. Mystery Locks add a new challenge to unlocking the spells of enemies when you first encounter them. (A corresponding “Reveal” action will appear in some of your party’s special abilities.) Combo points remain after battles, which should open the door to some epic strikes in your opening moves in later confrontations. Additionally, developer Sabotage Studio says it is working hard to rebalance the entire game to reflect new mechanics and incorporate player feedback.
Other changes include a more action-oriented prologue that ditches the old flashback structure, a bonus cinematic, and a relic (game mode) designed for speed runners. There will also be three difficulty options when starting the game. Finally, it improves the game’s stealth tracking parrot and adds a French Canadian translation for “Quebec’s best Solstice Warriors.”
New features the dawn of the equinox will be applied soon Watchmaker’s crowns DLC. This content will add a new storyline that Sabotage Studio describes as a “consultant” next spring. Sea of starsoriginal adventure” (perhaps before a full-fledged sequel?). The DLC will send Valere and Zale to a “magical miniature clockwork world threatened by a cursed carnival,” forcing the heroes to adapt their sun and moon magic to the mysterious environment.
Sea of stars It was one of the biggest surprises of 2023, garnering public praise and taking home hardware. Best Indie Game at last year’s Game Awards. Lawrence Bonk of Engadget appreciated his game Chrono Trigger vibes earlier this year called for gorgeous pixel art and a world map that pays homage to its ’90s RPG inspirations.
Sea of stars now available on all major platforms: PC, Transition, PS5/4, Xbox One Series X/S and Xbox One (including Game Pass). The full game costs $35 and both upcoming major content updates will be added for free.
