Google’s latest 4th generation Nest Learning Thermostat has been on sale for just over a month . It is a device which brings the price down to $260. Enter code “20ENGNLT4” at checkout. This is a record low price because basically the thing just came out.
This is not an iterative improvement over the previous Nest Learning Thermostat. It’s a complete redesign with a new look and lots of updated features. The LCD display is 60 percent larger than that found on the older third-generation device, and has a curved front that eliminates the appearance of bezels. Now everything is a screen.
This larger display allows for a lot of customization with customizable smartwatch-like faces. It can even look like an ordinary analog clock. Thanks to the integrated Soli radar sensors, the UI automatically adjusts what is shown on the screen depending on how far you are from the thermostat.
The new Nest is packed with AI designed to provide more accurate readings and suggest potential actions to save on your monthly utility bill. It’s a smart thermostat, so it can be programmed to take arbitrary action based on ambient temperature and other factors.
For this purpose, it is equipped with a wireless temperature sensor that can be placed anywhere within the range. Each Nest can integrate up to six of these sensors, and more can be had for $40 or three for $100. Item also ships with trim plate to cover paint and drywall imperfections and steel plate to mount electrical boxes. As the third-generation Nest comes out in 2015, it will be relatively future-proof.
