You can take a game out of the busy fall 2024 calendar. Ubisoft is late Assassin’s Creed Shadows Until February 14. It was originally slated for a November 15 release for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac, and iPad.
You can probably guess the main reason for this Ubisoft pushing back the latest entry in the saga by several months. While all the features are largely built in, the company needs more time to iterate on them and polish the game as a whole.
“We understand that this decision will be disappointing news, especially for those who have been patiently waiting for an Assassin’s Creed game inspired by Feudal Japan, but we believe it is in the best interest of the game and ultimately sincere for your experience as a player,” Mark-Alexis, executive producer of Assassin’s Creed Kote wrote. A statement about X.
In the financial statement [PDF]Ubisoft said it made a delay call Assassin’s Creed Shadows in part because of what he learned from his release Star Wars Outlaws. One of the main criticisms leveled at that game is that it’s too much penalizes the implicit sequenceespecially in early departures. There is Ubisoft made some changes to do these parts of the game less heavy.
Ubisoft confirmed that despite positive reviews, there were initial sales Star Wars Outlaws “proved to be milder than expected.” There is hope to polish Outlaws and improve the player experience to help the game find a wider audience during the holiday season. To help with that, the title will be available on Steam on November 21st.
To this end, Ubisoft hopes to spend extra time Assassin’s Creed Shadows “brings two very different playstyles that will allow the biggest entry in the franchise to fully deliver on its ambition, especially delivering on the promise of our dual protagonist adventure with Naoe and Yasuke.”
Meanwhile, Ubisoft says it’s shaking up some business practices Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It says the game will mark the company’s comeback, bringing its games to Steam instead of making them exclusive to Ubisoft Connect on PC for a few months. It also plans to ditch the Season Pass model. There will be no early access period, but pre-orders only Assassin’s Creed Shadows will get the first expansion for free.
