Just Duolingo announced the portable piano. Yes, we are talking about the same program that has become synonymous with learning a foreign language. It is also in the program some music learning coursesso this keyboard that’s what it’s meant for and not to press keys to trigger Spanish phrases.
The company teamed up with Loog for this tool, so it’s basically a hack of it pre-existing Loog Piano. It replaces the red with, dare I say it, Brat Green, and comes with a neat little smartphone stand to keep an eye on the app during your workout. Other than that, it looks almost identical to the OG version.
This is not a bad thing. The Loog x Duolingo Piano is a three-octave digital keyboard with built-in stereo speakers, wooden sides, and a rechargeable battery for portable use. The keys are probably one of the biggest selling points because they allow for dynamics (piano to forte).
It works like a standard MIDI controller via USB-C and has a support port and a headphone jack. This special version also ships with Duolingo flashcards for beginner piano players. Of course, it also integrates with the company’s application, for on-the-fly lessons. The Loog Piano app is coming, but we don’t know when. We’ve reached out to the company to confirm a specific release date and whether the Duolingo piano will be integrated with the Loog app. We’ll update this post when we find out, although I’d be very surprised if there isn’t cross-app functionality.
Like the original Loog Piano, it costs $249. Although it won’t ship until November, pre-orders are currently live. If you’re really craving a student-grade portable piano, the standard Loog Piano is shipping right away.
