Yesterday, the US government announced for the first time in history . is the result of the work of . It’s called a website . Frankly, we’re surprised that sea-level rise data hasn’t been readily available to the public until now.
The website allows you to check how much sea level has risen in a particular region and even has predictions of how much sea level will rise in the future. According to the home page, the information is federally supported and contains “explanations and science education to help communities prepare for challenges that will affect our coastal environment.”
We tested the sea level surveyor and chose Pennsylvania as our target state. It showed that sea level in PA is nine inches higher since 1970 and is expected to rise 11 inches between 2020 and 2050. These statistics are followed by explanations and charts.
The site is a project of the Interagency Working Group on Sea Level Change, which includes representatives from the Department of Defense, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, and NASA. The site itself includes a variety of information about the causes of climate change for kids and adults (hint: it’s people), in addition to showing specific sea level numbers.
