Clicking on it will show a note saying it’s been tagged either because of signals shared by the industry or because someone has self-disclosed that it’s an AI-generated image. Meta launched an application created by artificial intelligence content tags to a wider range of video, audio and images earlier this year. But after widespread complaints from photographers that the company was wrongly tagging content that wasn’t even AI-generated, Meta changed By July, the “Made with AI” tag will become “AI Data.”
The social network said it’s working with companies across the industry to improve its tagging process, and that it’s making the changes to “better reflect the extent of AI used in its content.” Still, doctored images are widely used these days spread misinformationand this development can make it harder to identify fake news, which is usually more common during election season.
