Good Words 2 (lofi city pop)The game, where you send real letters to real people and then wander around a cozy town, is coming to Steam on October 7th.
It is a continuation of this the award-winning 2019 game by independent Boston studio Popcannibal. Players in the original game had a bedroom where they wrote and answered letters from other players against a sweet lo-fi soundtrack. The game had small room customization and sticker collection, but it was really about connecting with strangers in a warm and welcoming way. It was an advanced idea: only six months later Kind words came out, the coronavirus pandemic closed the world. Connecting with people securely and remotely has suddenly become a top priority and Kind words he duly fulfilled this responsibility. In the five years since its launch, hundreds of thousands of players have sent more than 6 million messages in the game.
Kind words 2 imports your letters, room changes and stickers from the first game, allowing you to leave your bedroom and explore a city of small shops, cafes and parks. On top of the standard letter-writing loop, you can customize your avatar with new clothes, scream into space (in written form), wish upon a star, recite poetry, and interact with other players in public spaces. An endless cold soundtrack is coming Kill the Spire and Kind words composer Clark Aboud. All look and sound incredibly attractive.
In terms of game design, Popcannibal faces a unique and impossible-sounding challenge with the Kind Words series. Instead of building innovative environments or ultra-responsive controls, developers should create a world that encourages anonymous online strangers to be nice to each other. The original game excelled in this regard, using visuals, mechanics, mood and music to foster friendly conversations between thousands of anonymous players around the world. Kind words 2 bigger, but the vibe seems just as relaxed, and this time around Popcannibal has years of moderation and vibe-curation experience under his belt. If anyone can create an anonymous social network without trolls, it’s these people.
