Apple didn’t reveal the lack of cables in the headset’s package at the event, but perhaps the company’s assumption is that most people already have a bunch of USB-C cables. Still, it disabled the Lightning port on AirPods’ cases, so current users bought Lightning cables with their previous models.
Apple started selling its devices years ago without a charging brick, and in 2022 it stopped shipping the Apple TV with a USB cable for the Siri charger. So, no, it’s not unprecedented, but for those who don’t have an extra cable, you’ll need to purchase one to use with the AirPods 4. Latest version AirPods Max comes with a cable, so those looking to get a pair don’t need to add an extra cable to their shopping cart.
