If compact Wonderboom too big for you, Ultimate Ears’ latest speaker will replace that model as the smallest entry in the company’s current lineup. Miniroll as the name suggests, it’s a scaled-down version of the company’s flat, circular shape Roll design. This is new Bluetooth option less than a pound and can fit into tight pockets. Or, as UE likes to show off in its marketing materials, the speaker can connect to just about anything thanks to the built-in, flexible strap.
Still, Ultimate Ears kept the prominent volume buttons as a key design element. The power and play/pause buttons are on the left side, the latter control also helps you skip a track and activate PartyUp mode (with Auracast) for synchronization with other UE speakers. The bottom edge has a USB-C port for charging. Although this component is fully exposed, the speaker is IP67 dust and water resistant, plus it can withstand drops of around 4 feet (1.2 meters).
Don’t let the small size fool you, the Miniroll still packs a punch. The speaker can handle up to 85.5dB of volume, which is impressive for a unit of this size. This big sound comes with one 45.6mm active driver and one 37.75mm x 65mm passive radiator.
Ultimate Ears promises up to 12 hours of battery life on a charge, plenty of juice for all-day entertainment on the go. There is also an element of continuity here. The fabric is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled polyester and the speaker has at least 40 percent post-consumer recycled plastic parts.
Miniroll is now available For $80 (€80/£70) in black, blue, gray and pink color options. At this price, the speaker is not only the smallest, but also the most affordable in the current UE range.
