Over 1.4 million Ram 1500 trucks recalled to fix a bug in the anti-lock brake system

Chrysler’s parent company, Stellantis, has recalled 2019 and 2021-2024 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a software issue with the anti-lock braking system. According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a faulty anti-lock braking system can “disable the electronic stability control system,” which in turn can increase the risk of a crash.

The recall covers approximately 1.46 million vehicles worldwide. It is reported that the vast majority of them are in the United States. There are currently no known injuries or accidents related to the problem Reuters. If the problem occurs, owners should see the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Forward Collision Warning lights come on after starting the truck. Per ReutersThe software problem does not affect the foundation brake.

Notices will be mailed to owners in early October, NHTSA says, and they will need to bring their trucks to dealers to have the ABS control module software updated. NHTSA says the vehicles currently do not meet federal motor vehicle safety standards for electronic stability control systems.
