LG flaunts its stretchable displays on the catwalk

LG’s stretchable screens we first seen at CES 2023 His company appeared in public at a fashion show announced. The technology, which LG now calls Stretchable, was revealed as part of clothing and bag concepts at Seoul Fashion Week 2025.

Indicators were added to the front of dresses, sleeves and clutch bags designed by Korean designers Youn-Hee Park and Chung-Chung Lee. “We were able to design future fashion concepts with new materials that never existed before,” Park said.

Stretchable displays can be stretched, bent and folded, so they go a step further than the bend and twist displays used in foldable smartphones. To make them more flexible, LG made the substrate material from silicon, similar to that used in contact lenses, with microLEDs smaller than 40 micrometers for the light source. LG notes that they can stretch between 12 and 14 inches, or about 20 percent.

Flexible wearable technology has been a much explored feature for fashion and even the like veils of invisibility. The South Korean government has created a national project to test the commercial potential for a new type of wearable technology across multiple industries. The main problem was making it like fabric instead of hard plastic, but LG solved the problem at least partially.
