When not looking Architecture or with the movie Weird Al on the Roku, the device launches a familiar scrolling, purple cityscape. Now you don’t have to settle for just one thing Flintstones-custom background of neoclassical buildings and a random billboard for PlutoTV when the Roku goes into rest mode. It introduces a new screen saver feature called TV Watch Platform .
The new viewing feature transforms your TV or viewing device except that Roku hasn’t taken away the single feature that gave it its name. The backgrounds will show images of classic artworks by masters like Claude Monet and beautiful images of landscapes that you can choose to display on your Roku device. The new Backdrops feature will start appearing on Roku-branded TVs and third-party Roku TVs in the next few weeks, while customers with Roku streaming players and streaming bars will have to wait until the fall.
There are thousands of artworks and photos to choose from and even include descriptions so you can learn a little art history and geography while you’re in front of your TV. You didn’t do anything important on the couch in sweatpants you didn’t even wear outside when you took out the trash.
Roku’s Backdrops aren’t limited to the options it offers. You can also upload your photos from your computer to your Roku account on the website and connect your Google Photos collection to your Roku. If an entire museum can move in the opposite direction to every piece of art around you, backdrops can basically turn your boring wall into a museum.
