DTS built an AI-powered system to make dialog sound clearer

One of life’s great universal annoyances is that the TV blasts and music are always mega-loud, while the dialogue is quieter than a church mouse. This is especially true of modern action movies and TV shows that seem to be mixed to rock our walls.

So we enter the settings. We adjust the location of the soundbar. We turn on the subtitles. We do it all. Some of these help, but never enough. DTS tries to solve this problem once and for all with well-placed AI. The company just announced DTS Clear Dialogue, an “AI-powered solution designed to improve the clarity of spoken dialogue on TVs.”

DTS says an artificial intelligence algorithm identifies and enhances dialogue in audio streams, thereby eliminating the aforementioned issues. The system also allows for personalized sound settings, since one person’s “perfect” is another’s “please stop it.”

This is a set of tools on the device, which means it will be adopted by TV manufacturers. DTS has yet to announce any partnerships, but the company’s technology is commonly adopted by all the major companies, including Sony, Hisense, Philips, LG and Vizio. We’ll be looking for the first TVs to include this feature. For now, the company is demonstrating the service at the IFA tech conference in Berlin.

DTS partners with content providers that bring theater-grade audio to home releases. Recently To enhance and provide the sound of MCU movies . Boy, could these MCU movies use some of the company’s promising AI-enhanced dialogue magic.
