Apple Sports is ready for some football with new game tracking updates

If you’re a professional or college football fan who wishes you could travel back in time to watch every game as it happened, Apple Sports can help. An iPhone sports app can’t break the laws of quantum physics, but it can help you track all the games during football season.

The latest update to Apple Sports adds more comprehensive alerts and features for National Football League (NFL) and National Collegiate Athletic Association Football (NCAAF) games. Not only will the app provide up-to-the-minute scores and stats on games, but it will also provide play-by-play updates for scoring drives with a new “dynamic drive tracker” that can show the ball’s location on the court. The Apple Sports app will also provide real-time betting odds during each game.

The app will eventually add game-by-game key scorecards, a feed of updates for your teams, and a drop-down screen that makes it easy to find games and jump between games even if you’re not watching them. . It will also cannibalize the Live Actions notification feature from Apple TV. Both of these features will drop when iOS 18 beta launches in the fall.

Apple Sports app launched in February is free and available now on the App Store. Starting Thursday, the app can track games for 15 different league seasons, including the NFL, NCAAF, Major League Soccer (MLS), Major League Baseball (MLB) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Apple said more leagues will be added to the app in future updates.
