Sony hikes the PlayStation 5 price in Japan by 19 percent

Due to the “difficult external environment”, Sony will do this 19 percent in Japan. The new price for the standard PS5 model will be ¥79,980 (about $554), effective September 2, 2024. It does not affect the prices of the console in other countries.

This is important to note All over the world, except for the US, two years ago. Similar to the Japanese price hike, Sony also noted that “difficult economic decisions” led to this difficult decision. Without touching on the features, the console is not the only product that will cost more, as accessories such as the DualSense controller and the PlayStation VR2 are also experiencing price increases.

It’s quite unusual for a console to start this late in its life and have such a price increase, and Sony is expecting it For fiscal year 2025. But despite this slowdown, the PS5 has arrived last year, and beats the Xbox Series X/S by a wide margin.

The PS5 Pro is also rumored to launch this fall. While it’s unlikely why the price of the PS5 will increase in Japan, it’s still a potential factor in how Sony prices the current model. However, the PS5 Pro is still not confirmed.
