A few Electric cars and other models will soon have access to a number of casual multiplayer games that you can play using your phone as a controller. VW has teamed up with AirConsole to bring its gaming platform to the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4 and ID.3 product lines, as well as the new Passat, Tiguan, Golf and Golf Estate. VW expects to introduce the AirConsole to cars in some European markets by mid-September, before a wider expansion with more games and terrain.
After launching the AirConsole app on the VW Active Info Display, you just need to scan the QR code to connect the smartphone. Passengers in the back will also be able to join multiplayer games. Note that the AirConsole will only work when the car is in park, so it’s primarily designed to help pass the time for anyone waiting at an EV charging station or otherwise being idle.
VW isn’t the first automaker to include AirConsole in its cars, like BMW . The platform is available on desktop web browser as well as Android TV, Google TV and Amazon Fire TV.
Offering games in cars has become a bit of a trend in the past few years, with Tesla Offers access to Steam in some models (at least up to stopped support for this earlier this year). Personally, I’m more interested in installing a PS5 , Pimp My Ride– style.
