Sony has updated its affordable headphone offering as it debuts in 2021 $100 WF-C500. Now Sony is back with a cheaper variant, WF-C510it will be available for $70.
The company has changed the design once again for this budget-friendly pair of engineered headphones that are 20 percent smaller and 15 percent lighter than the C500. In fact, Sony says this new model is the smallest design for closed-type buds. The C510 maintains its predecessor’s IPX4 rating, so it should still be suitable to use during exercise, and the headphone housing and case are made from recycled plastic. Fortunately, while the headphones lack active noise cancellation (ANC), Sony has added a surround sound (transparency) mode. Surround sound usually only comes with ANC sets, so the added convenience is noticeable here. The company has also introduced multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, which will bring another handy feature to the C510.
Sony has increased the battery life of the headphones themselves to 11 hours. Like the previous model, the refill case provides enough juice for one additional full charge. Plus, the quick charge feature will give you up to an hour of use in just five minutes. The C510 will work with Sony’s headphone app to let you adjust settings, and both 360 Reality Audio and DSEE upscaling, a tool that restores detail lost through compression, are on the spec sheet.
The WF-C510 is them available for pre-order now available in black, blue, white, and yellow for $70 and scheduled to ship in early September. Amazon currently lists the price at $60, but Sony has confirmed that the C510 will cost $70.
