Instagram copies… Myspace?


If there’s one thing that’s guaranteed in the world of social media, it’s this platforms will be copied characteristics of each other. However, its newest iteration is still surprising, to say the least. Instagram has announced a new music feature that lets you add songs to your profile a la Myspace.

Instagram copied the MySpace platform, which was at its peak long before Instagram existed, and arguably declined with the rise of that platform. The parent company of Instagram.

So how does this new feature work? You can select a song by editing the profile and clicking “Add music to your profile”. You can then select or search for a song in the For You section. From there, select 30 seconds of the song you want to feature and it will stay on your profile until you choose a new one or decide to make Myspace features a thing of the past. If you’re hanging out in public, don’t worry, because songs won’t start playing the moment you visit someone’s profile — just click play to hear it.

Instagram teamed up with singer Sabrina Carpenter to promote the feature, where fans were able to listen to the music video for her new song “Dad.” only on his profile (although the album will be released tomorrow). Earlier this year The parent company of InstagramMeta teamed up with another pop star, Taylor Swift. Along with the release of her new album, she created the Threads account, Tortured Poets Societyin April. The first group of people to share his post is a personal badge on their profile.
