If you own the Amazon Echo Show 8 Photos edition, get ready for your device to start showing ads. According to emails sent by customers and and reported for the first time Amazon will discontinue the PhotosPlus subscription feature that allowed people to upload and display their own photos on the Echo Show 8.
PhotosPlus subscriptions will end on September 12th, and Amazon will end support for the photo feature on September 23rd. Instead, affected customers will have to upload their photos to Amazon Photos with 25GB of storage and learn to live with ads on the home screen.
The feature, which costs $2 a month, allows users to upload their own photos a home screen that turns a voice and touch-controlled display device into a digital picture frame. The screen rotated photos of their owners every 30 seconds, a feature that could stay on indefinitely (or as long as it could run on its rechargeable battery).
Any mention of a PhotosPlus subscription has been removed from the Amazon website. The Amazon Echo Show 8 Photos Edition is also no longer available.
Amazon has seen some major struggles with Alexa devices. Last month, it reported that Alexa could cost Amazon more than $25 billion from 2017 to 2021. Amazon tried to cover some of those losses . The tech giant is also reportedly working on an improved version known as Alexa may come with a monthly subscription fee.
