The War of the Rohirrim shows an anime-styled Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim It’s been in the works for nearly three years, but with its release date fast approaching, we now have our first trailer. This is one of the more unusual and interesting projects of the Lord of the Rings franchise, an anime-style standalone film that takes place in the kingdom of Rohan about 200 years before the War of the Rings.

The trailer begins with some iconic footage from the 00s Lord of the Rings movies focused on Rohan before diving into the animation. It’s immediately clear that this project is related to Peter Jackson’s films, as the designs for key areas such as Edoras and Helm’s Deep clearly refer to the earlier films, albeit in a different style. As for the characters, we are introduced to King Helm Hammerhand and his daughter Hera, who according to the trailer will most likely be our main protagonists. It looks like his attempt to marry her off goes south and angers Wolfe’s family – things then escalate with lots of action and Oliphaunts and, naturally, some annoying incidents involving the ring.

The film was directed by Kenji Kamiyama, who also wrote and directed various anime Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and East of Eden. He also directed episodes Star Wars: The Visions and Ultraman. Most of the cast is still under wraps, but we do know that Brian Cox voices King Hammerhand and Gaia Wise voices his daughter Hera. Miranda Otto, who also plays Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings films, will be the narrator of the story.

The film opens on December 13, and is the first of the Lord of the Rings films – Andy Serkis, perhaps best known for his role as Gollum in Jackson’s Middle Earth films is directing a new film conditionally entitled The Hunt for Gollum. Even though it’s been years since that movie, fans can still catch Middle Earth on screen for a week In Amazon’s second season The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power premieres.
