There is a reason behind it appropriately named Y2K. The film imagines New Year’s Eve 1999, where computers really turn on humanity. He is its author and director SNL alum Kyle Mooney, who did fantastic and underrated Brigsby Bear.
As the trailer suggests, it is a 1990s teen comedy It can’t wait longbut also an apocalyptic horror film. This particular hodgepodge brings to mind This is the EndIn which Seth Rogen and other celebrities fight the demon horde.
However, instead of an evil horde, these teenagers will be fighting for their lives against VCRs, old-school computers, and of course, killer Tamagotchi. Also, Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit makes an appearance. The cast consists mostly of unknown teenagers, but adults are played by Tim Heidecker, Alicia Silverstone and Mooney himself. The film will be released in theaters on December 6.
