Remember Dyson zone? Headphones with an air purification system and a built-in mask? The company is back this year with a less gimmicky version that focuses purely on sound. Spent weeks with our sound guy Billy Steele Dyson Ontrac and found it outperformed most of the competition. He even beat Sony WH-1000XM5 about 18 hours in the test. Dyson explained in the briefing that he has learned a lot about how to deal with unwanted noise through all his experience working to reduce the noise of other wind-generating products (such as hair dryers).
But thanks to Billy’s experience with almost every other headset, I’ve learned that the Dyson OnTrac’s active noise cancellation is only average. As the kids these days say, it’s average.
Although these headphones look great and have interesting hearing health features, ultimately Billy didn’t feel they did enough to justify the $500 price tag, giving it a pretty average 73. You can probably find Master & Dynamic, Sony or better. even Apple.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12: A high-end business laptop that needs a few tweaks

While she likes the X1 Carbon’s screen and long-lasting battery, Sherri noted that Lenovo’s decision to place the power button on the edge instead of the keyboard deck was a mistake. He also cautioned that the gap between the ThinkPad X1 Carbon and the competition is small and ever-shrinking.
One year with Google’s Pixel Fold

This week, the entire Engadget team has been hard at work covering Google’s hardware launch event, which means less time for writers and editors to publish reviews. Our reviewers typically participate in hands-on and other promotional coverage of the companies whose products they test, and while these are not full reviews, I consider them appropriate for this roundup.
Sam Rutherford spent time with him, reviewing mobile phones, laptops, gaming PCs and more (he does a lot!). Pixel 9 Pro Fold In a Google hands-on session. Sam is one of those people who actually went out and bought a Galaxy Fold when the first generation came out. His love for this category and more importantly his first hand experience is so deep. To this day, he uses a foldable as his daily driver.
In fact, he’s been using Google’s original Pixel Fold for a year now and takes time to write. sustainability report published this week. Flexible screens are still fairly fragile components, and the first foldables were easily damaged. With the Pixel Fold, Sam was surprised to see it carried out with her brave (and cute) baby. Not only is this great news for those considering a foldable device, but it’s also impressive that the technology has come so quickly.
On the horizon: Future reviews
We have published it elsewhere on the site practically with the new Pixel Watch 3and as the dust from Google’s event begins to settle, it will soon be time to wait for full reviews of each new device announced. With the Pixels coming out at various points in August and September, people will be getting their hands on them fairly quickly, and I’m hoping we’ll get reviews on them soon….
We also continue to test many Copilot+ PCs from the likes of HP, Dell, ASUS, and Samsung (remember those?) Then there’s the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra, which takes a bit longer to evaluate given its many features because it requires a long-term test. Plus, it’s almost September, when we usually expect Apple to unveil new iPhones. There will be lots of reviews here soon, so stay tuned.
