Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg just announced some new features Coming to Threads, making it easy for creators and businesses to build a following and connect with fans. The biggest tool is something called Insights, which is basically an analytics platform.
Insights gives users a closer look at traffic with information about the age, gender and location of people viewing and interacting with content. This information can also be broken down into followers and non-followers to help with conversion.
Meta has been testing Insights for a few days now, and it seems quite useful, especially for people with a large following. I’m talking about brands, creators and power users. However, it should be fun for the rest of us.
Themes will now allow multiple drafts at the same time. This move would be preceded by a new draft replacing the old one, so people only had one chance to point something out later. To that end, Meta is working on a post scheduling feature, but it’s not ready yet.
Finally, there is a way to drag and drop pinned columns to rearrange. This is only for the desktop client, but it works with the Insights page.
Threads has serious momentum right now. Simply 200 million users have crossed the threshold after only one year of operation, and CEO Zuckerberg plans to increase this number to one billion.
“We’ve been building this company for 20 years, and there’s not much opportunity to develop a billion-dollar app,” Zuckerberg said on a recent earnings call. “Obviously there’s a ton of work now and then.”
I a fairly regular Threads user. Vibes is flawless, especially compared to other software, but it still needs some work. “For you” algorithm it’s incredibly slowsometimes it shows old posts. The platform has a strange aversion to politics and news, and lumps it all under the umbrella of “potentially sensitive” content. It’s a social media app that wants to be a public town square like a bird app once was, so stop the news.
