If you think Google might be taking a break after unveiling the new Pixel 9 devices Event by Google you will be wrong this week. A Last post in Threads It appears to show part of a signup form for accepting Pixel devices, with language in question requiring signatories to showcase Google’s hardware “instead of any competing mobile devices” or that “we would have to end the association between the brand and the device.”
After some online chatter, it turned out that this form was sent to members of the Team Pixel program, which is different from the program considered for members of the press or media. Engadget falls into the latter category, and I haven’t seen this language on our form, nor have I seen it in my experience as a reviewer of Google devices. I also want to assure our viewers that we will never agree to any terms that require us to provide positive reviews in exchange for access.
Meanwhile, Google has issued a statement stating that these words are incorrect. Kayla Geier, communications manager at Google, said: “#TeamPixel is a separate program from our press and creative feedback programs. #TeamPixel’s goal is to put Pixel devices in the hands of content creators, not press and tech reviewers. We’re announcing this new lingo that appeared yesterday in the form of #TeamPixel missed and it was deleted.”
It is not yet known if the members of #TeamPixel have received a new contract, and if those who opted out will be given a chance to reapply.
