Google’s big Pixel event was packed with phones, and the company redesigned them all. No more Cyclops camera roll, now it’s the Among Us camera roll. It’s on all Pixels (new . There are newly smoothed sides and softer corners that make these phones look more iPhone-like than before.
First, the entry-level Pixel 9 has a slightly larger 6.3-inch screen than its predecessor and a substantial camera up to a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens. New AI-powered photo editing tricks, e.g and join the features I use every day on my Pixel 8, like Reimagine, Magic Editor, and Night Sight.
It joins the same-sized Pixel 9 Pro and 6.8-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL. Technically, the Pixel 9 Pro is a new offering: the best Pixel camera in a more convenient size. Apart from the screen size and battery, the specifications are the same on both the Pro phones. The basic Pixel 9 has a matte satin finish, while the Pro devices have a glossy, polished treatment. (Personally, I wish it was the other way around.) Along with the 50- and 48-megapixel camera duo, there’s also a third 48-megapixel camera with 5x telephoto zoom. This is the ‘pro’ part.
One of the surprises was that Google’s new $1,000 Pixel 9 phones won’t ship with Android 15.
This could be because the new Pixels are coming out sooner than usual. Android 14 arrived last October, so we can expect to hear more about Android 15 in the fall. But don’t worry. There will still be plenty of new AI features – we’ll be playing with them once our review devices land. Trust and believe.

Smart new shape and bigger screens.
Google’s first foldable attempt was different. The company went for different screen ratios, crazy price and capable cameras. Don’t call it the Pixel Fold 2 this year, because it’s the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Along with the updated design, it has what Google says is the largest display of any phone on the market. Goodbye, passport form. The new foldable features a 6.3-inch external display, almost identical in size to the standard Pixel 9. But inside…boom. An eight-inch screen that surpasses Samsung, OnePlus and other competing foldables.
Along with the cameras, the new module has a 48MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultra-wide camera and a 10.8MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. It’s not quite the Pixel 9 Pro, but it sounds capable on paper. Still no stylus support.
This is the new Google Assistant.
All these new Pixels will have Gemini, Google’s AI-powered chatbot, rather than Google Assistant as the default assistant. “Gemini is the evolution of Assistant,” said Sissie Hsiao, vice president and general manager of Gemini Experiences at Google. Powered by Google’s own large family of language models, Gemini can apparently do anything the classic Google Assistant can do. To be clear, you can still use Gemini as your assistant on most current Android phones, Pixels or otherwise, but only if you’re signed in.
A dump of 2.7 billion records.
Months after a hacker group claimed to have sold nearly three billion records stolen from a popular data broker, most of the data appears to have been leaked on a forum. according to Leaky Computerthe data dump includes records of 2.7 billion people in the United States, including names, social security numbers, potential aliases, and all physical addresses where they are known to live. Even worse, it’s all unencrypted. It may be worth taking some steps to protect yourself from fraud and identity theft.
