The The M4-powered model could be ready for an overhaul when it arrives. According to Mark Gurman, it is said to be the size of an Apple TV box . That would make it the smallest desktop computer ever has built. The M4 Mac mini is expected to arrive later this year, and if the report is confirmed, it would also mark the system’s first major refresh since 2010, when it was last designed under Steve Jobs.
The next Mac mini could be just 3.7 inches wide, which is less than half the size . But despite its smaller footprint, the M4 Mac mini could be taller than the current 1.4-inch-tall system. It is expected to still have an aluminum shell.
The report suggests that the next Mac mini could be roughly equal to the latest model, the iPad Pro . That could be cheaper for Apple than the current Mac mini, but it’s unclear if that will result in the company lowering the $599 retail price for the M2-powered model.
Apple is said to be testing two versions of the Mac mini, including an iPad Pro equivalent and a more powerful setup with the M4 Pro chipset. According to Gurman, the company tested devices with three or more USB-C ports, a power outlet and an HDMI port. It will be interesting to see if the company ditches USB-A ports with the new Mac mini.
Elsewhere, we could see M4-powered iMacs and MacBook Pros this year as well. The next-generation MacBook Airs may not arrive until the spring, while Gurman suggests the next Mac Pro and Mac Studio could debut in mid-2025.
