Proton’s password manager is gradually catching up with competitors like 1Password. The company originally known by his name encrypted email and VPN servicesadded biometric authentication Proton Pass programwhich out of beta earlier this year. This feature works with Touch ID on macOS and Windows Hello on Microsoft’s desktop OS.
As with many other services, biometric authentication allows Proton Pass users to quickly unlock the security app using their fingerprint or face without typing in their login password each time. However, it’s not available to free users: Only those on the Pass Plus plan (and above) get access. Minimum plan expenses $23.88 per year or $4.99 if you want to pay monthly.
Proton is also upgrading its password manager to include identities, meaning it can auto-fill forms with your contact information with one click. Similar to biometric authentication, this type of feature has been seen countless times in competing products. Again (with the last addition cleaning up the dark web) shows that Proton was originally dedicated to creating an encryption-oriented password manager launched in beta version In early 2023.
Unlike biometric logins, identities are available not only for those on a paid plan, but also for free users.
“By implementing IDs and biometric authentication, Proton Pass significantly increases productivity for our users,” said Son Nguyen Kim, head of product for Proton Pass. “These features not only enhance our security offerings, but also simplify everyday tasks, allowing users to save time and reduce stress when managing their digital lives.”
The new features are available today in the Proton Pass app for Windows and Mac.
