Sonos has made good on its promise to expand TV audio sharing for the new Ace headphones, launched in June. When it came to premium boxes, support for the TV’s volume changer function was limited to these Arc soundbar. But starting Tuesday, Ace owners can change their audio Ray and Both generations of Beam.
After installing today’s update via the Sonos app, Ace users can stream audio from their TV to their headphones by pressing the content button on the right earcup. Alternatively, the Sonos app can do the same. After being limited to iOS when the headset arrived, the feature works on iOS and Android.
The TV audio switcher supports surround sound with Dolby Atmos, so you can feel like you’re “in the middle of the action,” as a Sonos representative puts it. Once activated, the function works through the Wi-Fi chip inside the headphones and receives signals from the soundbar. Bluetooth low energy will stay connected to your phone for control and settings, though there’s one caveat: If you get a call while browsing, you’ll need to change the audio to reconnect Bluetooth.
