Turkey has blocked Instagram amid a dispute over Hamas-related content


Instagram has been blocked in Turkey amid controversy over Hamas-related content on the platform. The app has been unavailable in the country since Friday morning. Netblocks is an organization that monitors internet and social media blackouts. Instagram has been restricted in the country.

Turkish regulators have not disclosed why the block is in place Bloomberg , the crackdown on Instagram appears to be related to his handling of Hamas-related posts on the platform. This was stated by Turkey’s head of communications Fakhreddin Altun on Friday X said Instagram was “actively preventing people from sending messages of condolence” for Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, who was killed earlier this week.

Meta did not publicly comment on the block.

It is not the first time that Turkish authorities have blocked a major social media service. Twitter was briefly blocked in the country after a devastating earthquake that killed thousands. YouTube and Twitter are also blocked
