Mark Zuckerberg says ‘f*ck that’ to closed platforms

In the two decades he’s run the company now known as Meta, Mark Zuckerberg has gone through many changes. Lately he has been showing off a less filtered version of himself. But during a live chat with NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, Meta seemed to go a little more off-script than the CEO intended.

The conversation began normally enough, with two billionaire executives congratulating each other on their dominance over AI. Zuckerberg made sure to talk about the company’s latest news He announced before settling into the usual talking points that came in recently .

Zuckerberg then began a long-running rant about his frustration with Apple’s “closed” ecosystems like the App Store. None of this is particularly new as a Meta builder with Apple for years. But then Zuckerberg, who is usually quite controlled in his public appearances, revealed how disappointed he was, saying his reaction to being told no to Huang was “damn”.

“I mean, it’s kind of selfish, but you know, after building this company for a while, one of my jobs for the next 10 or 15 years is I just want to make sure that we can build the core technology. we’re going to build social experiences because there’s been so many things I’ve tried to build and just been told, ‘nah, you can’t really build that by a platform provider,’ and in some cases I’m just like, ‘nah, screw it,'” Zuckerberg said.

“We have a broadcast opportunity,” Huang said. “Sorry,” Zuckerberg said. “Get me talking about closed platforms and I get pissed off.”
