Gran Turismo 7’s more realistic physics update is launching cars into orbit

Yesterday’s Gran Turismo 7 Game update 1.49 introduced completely new physics that added extra realism and generally improved gameplay. However, the change also causes some strange problems in specific situations, causing cars to bounce violently or simply be thrown into the air.

The physics updates are generally positive, adding “more natural cornering physics and acceleration/deceleration levels of stability,” according to the developer. Similar changes in wheel physics and steering make for an overall more challenging and rewarding driving experience.

However, it seems that some errors are also included gtplanet and posts on Reddit r/granturismo. According to numerous (hilarious) videos, high-horsepower cars with frequent engine modifications and extreme suspension settings literally fly, bounce, or cross the ground.

The problem occurs when cars try to accelerate at low speeds and mostly affects cars under AI control. It also happens during dynamic “Scapes Movies” scenes, designed to showcase scenes of cars driven by AI at low speeds. It has even been seen in GT Auto’s garages.

This is obviously a weird Z-axis programming bug, but the Gran Turismo team is aware of the problem and working on it. “We are aware of the following issue in Update 1.49 released on July 25: Vehicle Physics Simulation – Unintended vehicle behavior occurs when a certain vehicle parameter is set in Vehicle Settings,” it said. Type in X. A fix should be up soon, so enjoy the comedy while it lasts.
