Sonos made a serious move a few months ago when it released an overhauled first-party mobile app. shipped with a number of missing features. These include basic functions such as sleep timers and alarms. Many of the company’s speakers won’t show up as a pairing option, and fine-tuning the volume of a paired speaker has become very difficult. In addition, music search and playback were negatively affected by both changes, leading to numerous customer complaints.
Now the company has apologized for releasing the unfinished app. CEO Patrick Spence made a blog post to address “significant issues” with new software.
“There isn’t an employee at Sonos who doesn’t suffer from letting you down, and I can assure you that fixing the app for all of our customers and partners has been and continues to be our number one priority,” he said.
Spence also wrote that the company planned to quickly include missing features and fix any bugs, but those fixes were delayed due to “a number of issues” inherent in the update. He confirmed that Sonos actively releases patches about every two weeks to address various concerns.
Furthermore, he revealed the company’s future roadmap for the smooth functioning of the app. Upcoming fixes include increased stability when integrating new products and improved configuration options related to the music library. Like an alarm clock, the volume response is also updated. In fact, the entire user interface is undergoing a complete overhaul “based on customer feedback.”
All these changes will be released through a series of software updates from now until October. Spence says he knows the company has work to do to “restore” the trust of loyal Sonos customers. In better news, it did just leave some nice headphones.
