While Max was still known as HBO Max, it released a revised program Apple has added SharePlay for devices, but only in the US. Now the streaming service is rolling out this feature to its users worldwide. SharePlay is is already available Allows all Max users who pay for the Ad-Free and Ultimate Ad-Free plans to host and join watch parties over FaceTime and iMessage, no matter where they are.
Users can start watching with friends by pressing the “share” button in the details section of each title or in the FaceTime app. Each session can have up to 32 participants, but all must be Max subscribers. This means that people from regions where Max isn’t available, like Asian countries, won’t be able to sit and watch with their friends in the US or Europe. Warner Bros. plans to expand Max’s reach to Southeast Asia later this year, but it warns said on its website that the timeline is still subject to change.
SharePlay for Max works on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Vision Pro headsets. To start a watch party on iPhone, iPad, and Vision Pros, users need to find the Share icon on the show or movie’s details page, enter the contacts they want to share with, and create a FaceTime call. If they select Messages on their mobile device, their friends will receive a message asking them to join SharePlay. On Apple TV, users must open FaceTime first before clicking the SharePlay button and selecting Max from the list of apps.
