Users who get access to the assistant in August will be able to test its hands-free control functions. The company said Meta AI replaces the existing technology used for Voice Commands in the Quest, so it will control the headset when people use their voice for navigation and answer their questions when asked for information. For example, they can ask the assistant for restaurant recommendations for an upcoming trip, or ask about the weather for that day, as well as suggestions on how to dress for it.
They’ll also be able to use the “Meta AI with Vision” feature, which allows them to ask an assistant about what they’re seeing when using Passthrough in Quest. The switch allows users to see their surroundings through a video feed while watching or doing something else on their headphones. For example, while watching a YouTube video, the user can ask the assistant to look at what’s inside the fridge and suggest what they can cook, or ask for advice on what top would go with the skirt they’re holding. .
