iRobot unveiled its most advanced and expensive robotic vacuum cleaner on Tuesday. iRobot says the new Roomba carpets can seamlessly transition from vacuuming to mopping floors and automatically increases suction power when it detects carpets. It can then move back and forth with consistent pressure and deeper scrubbing when it feels it’s time to wipe.
The combo is designed to retract the entire vacuum system when it reaches carpet, “raising the vacuum pad above the robot to keep even high-pile carpets fresh and dry.” At the same time, it can vacuum and mop hard floors.
While other Roomba models can sense particularly messy areas, the Combo 10 Max adds a camera to “visually identify dirt on the floor.” The company claims this allows it to recognize the dirtiest areas up to eight times more often, making multiple passes more efficient.
Like other models, the robot vacuum can map your home, but iRobot says it can do so seven times faster than other models while automatically tagging each room type. Its software can even use past cleaning data to predict the cleanliness of each room and proceed accordingly.
The robot works with Alexa, Siri and Google Assistant, and iRobot expects it to Matter is active By the end of 2024. This should cover almost every type of smart home.
