So many things depend on Wi-Fi—your TV, music, games, smart home devices, maybe even your alarm clock—that dead zones kill productivity. We named the Nest Wi-Fi Pro the best for novice users a guide to mesh Wi-Fi systems and won our 87 points full review. Our reviewer Daniel Cooper called Google’s 6E system “more accessible than the rest,” though he notes that it can’t beat the competition in terms of speed.
The sleek circular shape is a bit more decor-friendly than more industrial-style routers, and was the first Nest router to use WiFi 6/6E. That’s great if you want to upgrade to a newer Wi-Fi standard, but keep in mind that these aren’t backwards compatible with Nest routers before the 6E.
As for speed, it’s fast enough for streaming movies and browsing the web, and the coverage is impressive. To aid performance, it dynamically manages traffic around available space, including using the 6GHz band as backhaul. This frees up a lot of space on the 2.4 and 5GHz bands that most devices use. So if you don’t have a ton of Wi-Fi 6E-enabled devices, this feature should help. Still, if speed is your main concern, you might be better off with us select for power users.
Overall, Dan raved that this is one of the cheapest WiFi 6E systems on the market, with a pretty seamless setup that’s pretty easy to use. If you already use other Nest or Google-compatible smart home equipment, you’ll appreciate the integration with the Google Home app.
