Luca MuscatLead designer at Halfbrick Studios Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyrideannounced a new game called Feed the deep. This time he is not supported by the studio and supported by his colleagues: Feed the deep is his first solo project after quitting his job. He calls the game a “Lovecraftian deep-sea roguelike,” as you take on the role of a diver who must literally feed the eldritch horrors lurking in the darkness of the ocean’s depths.
In the game, humanity has built floating cities on the surface of the ocean, unaware of the danger that lives below. Your job is to feed everything that lives in the depths so that it doesn’t destroy the cities. In it Steam pageMuscat said the game was “inspired by the likes of Dome guard and Spelunky.” You’ll need to collect resources in the dark to get upgrades and items while managing your oxygen to make sure you survive the dive. The caves you have to explore are procedurally generated so they’ll look different each time. You can also choose your play style, whether you’re fast and aggressive or go slower and more comfortably.
It is not clear whether it is Feed the deep will be available on non-PC platforms, but Muscat has only shared a Steam page so far. He plans to release the game this third quarter.
It’s official! After quitting my job, my first solo project starts later this year. I’ve designed Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, but solo is new to me.
Feed the Deep is like a deep sea villain. Feed the Eldritch horrors that live below before they feed you. pic.twitter.com/uUPSuUQSR2— Luke Muscat on Feed the Deep 🤿 (@pgmuscat) July 11, 2024
