We have less than a month the next Made by Google event, and we already know what one of the marquee announcements will look like. TikTok user pixo_unpacking (through YTechB) released videos of what appears to be pre-production samples of the Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 XL over the weekend.
The backs of the phones in the video are different: a glossy finish on the back of the standard Pixel 9 and a matte finish on the larger Pixel XL. 9 to 5 Google notes These appear to include the cutouts on the back panel that Google used for prototypes, though they’re mostly covered by labels on the clips.
Based on the video, the Pixel 9 has two cameras and the Pixel 9 XL has three. In addition, Google seems to have changed the camera viewfinder to an elongated oval. As evidenced by sections of the video showing the two phones side by side, it looks quite the ledge.
Google sent an invitation last month to the event of August 13. While (surprisingly) lacking in details, it promised to “showcase the best of Google AI, Android software, and the Pixel device portfolio.” The event will be held at Google’s Mountain View headquarters, rather than the typical New York City location for Pixel launches.
In addition to the Pixel 9 series, we expect a new generation Pixel Foldnew Tensor chip and third generation Pixel Watch. (And a possible Pixel Buds appearance.) Of course, since it’s 2024 and no company can hold an event without an almost hilarious obsession with artificial intelligence, we’re practically guaranteed to hear more about new Google AI features. the rumored Pixie AI assistant. In addition, phones may be included Instant satellite messaging like iPhone.
