Apple TV’s new Time Bandits show just got a glorious trailer and a July release date

Apple’s Time robbers to do again , it’s actually been over a year since Apple TV+ started rolling out content, but we haven’t gotten much in the way of actual details. That changed today with a trailer, release date and more. The upcoming adaptation of Terry Gilliam’s 1981 classic will consist of ten episodes premiering on July 24th.

The creative team is top-notch and perfect for reimagining Gilliam’s dark and hilarious time-piece. Directed by the dynamic duo behind the film What we do in the shadows, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The latter also produced several Marvel films with varying degrees of success.

The cast is pretty assembled and led, and I can’t believe I’m saying this about the underrated Lisa Kudrow, so famous and rich. The remaining titular pirates are portrayed by Charlyne Yi, Rune Temte, Tadhg Murphy and Roger Jean Nsengiyumva. Jemaine Clement replaces David Warner as the main antagonist, who have some mighty big shoes to fill, and Waititi replaces Ralph Richardson as the Supreme Being. Interestingly, the original cast is absent. It’s not a “passing the torch” kind of deal, it’s definitely a reimagining.

In this respect, the plot seems to be consistent with the original. It’s about a lonely British kid who discovers a time portal in his bedroom and gets involved in all sorts of hiccups with a lost time map. When it came on TV as a kid, the movie both amused and scared me. Hopefully the remake will keep that formula intact.

The trailer certainly shows that it will, showing several iconic sequences from the film, including Ancient Greece and the creation of Stonehenge. The show could do the same, just as the movie has a lot of guest stars as the gang travels through time. The role of Agamemnon was played by Sean Connery and Robin Hood by John Cleese. Neither character appears in the trailer, so there may be some casting surprises in store. Waititi loves that sort of thing.

Press release , it wasn’t in the movie, so we’ll likely see a lot of new time periods. Ten episodes of television are much longer than a two-hour movie.

Time robbers It will premiere on July 24 with two episodes. It runs until August 21, with two episodes released every Wednesday. It merges .
