CMF is a budget friendly sub-brand Nothing was announced last August, officially introduced a trio of new products. There are smartphones, watches and headphones, all of which seem modest in terms of both price and features.
Let’s start with the smartphone. nothing made a breakthrough with its original smartphone, the Nothing Phone 1 and the appropriately named CMF Phone 1 hope to follow suit. It wouldn’t be a product next to nothing without some unusual design elements, and the CMF Phone 1 certainly has its share.
The back cover is interchangeable, so users can quickly switch to different colors and designs. The company says this design element makes it easier to access the phone’s internal components for repair and maintenance tasks. This back cover also has something called an accessory point. When unfolded, this access point can be attached to accessories such as pop-up stands, card holders and ribbons.
As for specs, it has a newly designed 8-core MediaTek Dimensity 7300 5G processor, a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a “flagship-grade” 50MP primary camera sensor by Sony. It also has a 5000mAh battery and 8GB of RAM. These are average features, but still decent. Perhaps the biggest feature here is the price. The CMF Phone 1 costs just $200 and is available now. A variety of back covers and accessories will be available later this month.
CMF Watch Pro 2 is a continuation of last year’s hour. The design here is completely different, more rounded than the rectangular look of last year’s model. There is an automatic brightness adjustment algorithm, improved sleep tracking and customizable widgets. The watch has a 1.32-inch always-on AMOLED display, built-in GPS, accelerometer, ambient light sensor and a trio of health monitoring sensors. The company promises 11 days of use per charge, though that metric drops to nine days with “heavy use.”
Like the CMF Phone 1, it has some unique customization options. Of course, there are plenty of ribbons to choose from, but users can also change the frame to “switch between styles for any occasion.” These extra frames are just begging to be lost under a sofa cushion somewhere, but we appreciate the idea. Nothing has changed with this update. Still only $69. The Watch Pro 2 will be available on July 11.
Finally, there is the follow-up to CMF’s original headphones. Buds Pro 2 offer active noise cancellation and algorithmic spatial sound. The charging case has a customizable control knob to adjust almost every aspect of the playback process. Battery life seems decent enough, although ANC takes a big hit when using it.
There was a slight increase in the price of these headphones. Last year’s version was $49 and these are $59. Buds Pro 2 will also be available on July 11.
