Amazon is reportedly working on a new chatbot codenamed Metis. Business Insider reports, citing an internal document and unnamed sources familiar with the project. It would be powered by Olympus, a new AI model that Amazon had previously released Titan.
With Metis, it reportedly aims to use an approach known as Amazon search augmented generation (RAG). As the company describes it, RAG “directs LLM to retrieve relevant information from authoritative, predefined knowledge sources. Organizations have more control over the text output generated, and users gain insights into how LLM generates the answer.”
Essentially, RAG allows systems to access data beyond preloaded data from sources such as APIs and document repositories. This data can be updated separately without having to retrain the model, allowing it to obtain the most recent information, thus providing (ideally) more accurate, clear answers.

Amazon initially plans to release the Metis in September, when the company usually has a product launch event.
