Waymo now is available For anyone in San Francisco to run the app and buy robotax. There was a company owned by Alphabet Government permission to drive self-driving cars for a fee It’s been in town since last August, but has since gone through a waiting list. Following Cruise Unceremonious exit from California (after drags the pedestrian 20 feet and withholding evidence from regulators), Waymo is now the only company with autonomous commercial vehicles in the state.
Waymo says its cars have logged 3.8 million self-driving miles in San Francisco, and the company claims its cars make “tens of thousands of weekly trips” there. San Francisco Chronicle reports Waymo’s fleet in the city had about 250 to 300 vehicles in January. However, despite the wider opportunities, it reportedly has no plans to aggressively expand its San Francisco lineup in the near future.
San Francisco is Waymo’s second city to offer rides to the general public after Phoenix. The service was exclusive to Waymo One members (and their invitees). Starting in 2020and expanded to everyone in town two years later.
It could be a cruise flared up spectacularly, but Waymo hasn’t been without its problems. Earlier this month, it pushed a software update to its fleet after one of its self-driving cars Crashed into a telephone pole in Phoenix. This follows a strange incident earlier this year two Waymo robots ‘communicate’ with same rear-facing truck backed up. The company later said the software incorrectly predicted the truck’s movements due to a “persistent orientation mismatch” between the towed vehicle and the one pulling it.
