Valve is not waiting for its launch Steam Summer Sale to start the festivities. The company published on Monday 15 percent discount two suspended Steam Deck LCD models, offering a 64GB variant for under $300 and a 512GB version for under $400. The sale runs until July 11th at 10:00 AM PDT, or while supplies last.
The star of the fire sale is the 512GB (NVMe SSD) LCD Steam Deck model. It was originally $449, but the handset is on sale for just $381.65. Its OLED equivalent retails for $549, offering a big savings if you can live with the cheaper (but still high-quality) LCD display technology. Meanwhile, the 64GB (eMMC SSD) LCD model, originally priced at $349, is on sale for $296.65.
Both devices have a seven-inch display with a 1280 x 800 LCD display, 60 Hz refresh rate and 400 nits of brightness, but the 512 GB model has an anti-glare treatment. They have 40Wh batteries with a theoretical eight-hour runtime, but they’ll probably average 4.5 hours. Each model is shipped in a standard shipping box.
Engadget LCD has revisited the Steam Deck after last fall OLED options has been activated. While the handheld’s large size, weight, and average battery life hold it back (especially for those with small hands), it’s still a solid choice for home gamers invested in the Steam ecosystem. Conclusion: “If you have the extra cash, go ahead and get the OLED version,” says Jessica Conditt, but “compared to the broader handheld sector, the Steam Deck LCD offers a fantastic return on investment.”
You can check out the sale for all the details. In the meantime, you can mark your calendar for the Steam Summer Sale starting Thursday to save on tons of games.
