Sometimes we all need to turn off our minds a little and have some dumb fun. This was the kind of vibe I was waiting for when I was searching the Playdate Catalog for a new game to play this weekend, and let’s just say I got more than I ever wanted. Touch the egg. Designed by Joelle Tindall, the game is simple: snap your finger wildly to extend it Pinocchio-style and poke as many eggs as possible, but don’t let the creepy guy in the room see you or you’ll lose. finger It’s all about chasing the high score and you have 60 seconds to get those pokes.
There’s no story (well, none other than “She lays eggs and doesn’t want you to touch them”), so there’s no explanation of who the person is, what creature will hatch, or why. what bothers him and why everything is so creepy. Don’t worry about anything, just lean.
You can only touch the egg when the man’s eyes are closed. Three exclamation points will appear one after another to indicate that his eyes are about to open and you should stop ducking. You can also put him to sleep for a few seconds by pressing the ‘A’ button, but this may cause him to have no warning when he opens his eyes. All the while, an unusually large cat ticks the clock.
The visuals are amazingly disturbing, and just to add to the absurdity of it all, you can unlock little accessories like sunglasses worn on your thumb. There are also a few secrets to unlock as you play, and – sorry – you’ll earn Egg Heads. I clicked A touch of egg just because it made me think I think you should leave egg game, and a solid hour ended up being able to put it. (In contrast to the ITISLno NSFW surprises here).
A touch of egg It’s only $1 in the Playdate Catalog and it’s free itch.io. Now get out of here and go touch that egg.
