The company announced that X will soon move its live streaming capability behind a premium paywall. The change will make Xi the only major social platform to charge for the feature, which is currently free on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitch and TikTok.
“Soon, only Premium subscribers will be able to live stream (create a live video stream) on X,” the company said he said. “This includes live streaming from the encoder with X integration”, an obvious reference to X game flow opportunities.
X did not explain the change. The company has used additional features such as post editing. long form writing, and offers ad-free feeds to entice users into their paid subscriptions, but typically doesn’t put existing, mainstream features behind a paywall. X Premium subscriptions start at $3 per month for the “basic” tier and go up to $8 per month for Premium and $16 per month for Premium+.
However, there are other signs that the Elon Musk-owned platform is willing to pay for other simple features. Company presented $1 annual fee for new accounts to have hosting privileges in New Zealand and the Philippines. While the company still describes the scheme as an experiment, Musk has he suggested it wants to extend payments to all new users.
