Google announced at MWC earlier this year Integrating Gemini with Messages, gives you a way to access your chatbot from within your messaging app. The feature was limited to the newer Pixel and Samsung Galaxy phones at launch, but now Google has it updated their Help page all you need to access it is “an Android device with 6GB RAM or higher”. 9 to 5 Google First word on the change, along with news of the feature’s launch in India.
Currently, Google Messages only supports Gemini in English in the 164 countries where it is available. The only exception is Canada, which also supports French. (In case you’re wondering, the feature hasn’t made its way to France yet.) Google says it’s “working hard” to make it available in more languages and more territories in the future. But for now, your phone should be set to English — or French, if you’re in Canada — if you want Gemini to chat with you to draft messages, plan events, or just hang out.
Note that you must be 18 or older to access this feature and use Google Messages with an account you manage. You should also make sure your RCS chats are active. To sign in to Gemini, just open the Messages app and start a new conversation to see the option to talk to the chatbot.
