Netgear is releasing more affordable versions of its flagship Orbi and Nighthawk router systems. The recently released Orbi 970 so this is good news.
The Orbi 770 starts at $700. This is a three-band mesh router system that still supports Wi-Fi 7, supporting up to 100 devices simultaneously. The top speed is higher than the 970’s 11Gbps and 27Gbps, but it’s still plenty fast. Remember that one gigabit per second internet speed is actually 1000 megabits per second (Mbps). So the Orbi 770 offers 11 times that.
The three packs will cover 8,000 square feet and have a pair of 2.5Gb LAN ports for wired connection to a gaming console or shared storage device. The cylindrical design is slim enough to hide almost anywhere, and each unit has four built-in antennas for 360-degree coverage. The company says the system will work “from the front door to the backyard, regardless of the layout of the house.”
Orbi 770 now available through Netgear and major retailers. A starter package of one router and one satellite costs $700, while a three-pack of one router and two satellites costs $1,000. If you live in a mansion, you can add satellites for $400.
The Netgear Nighthawk RS300 is a standalone router, not a networking system. This tri-band router works with Wi-Fi 7 and offers speeds of up to 9.3 Gbps. The newly designed omni-directional indoor antenna should allow 2,500 square feet of coverage on up to 100 devices.
There are a pair of 2.5Gbps ports and two 1Gbps LAN ports for wired connections that can be linked together for speeds of up to 2Gbps when connected to a NAS device. It also has a USB flash drive for sharing files and a dedicated app for making quick adjustments. Nighthawk RS300 currently selling for $330which is .
