Empire of the Ants will let you explore a photorealistic bug’s life this November


Empire of the Antsreal time strategy game with dazzling photorealistic insects and other creatures arrive on November 7. While the game doesn’t exactly sound like a remake, it does come from the same publisher (and the same source material). 2000 RTS games of the same name. The new version will be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Publisher Microids and developer Tower Five describe the new Empire of the Ants as “a 3D real-time strategy game with progressive difficulty”. Set in the forest of Fontainebleau, you’ll play as 103,683e, “a determined ant on a mission to protect his colony.” You will collect resources, secure posts, strengthen your armies and implement the queen’s plans.

The game was built using Unreal engine 5 and will be a scalable challenge. The RTS title has a narrative storyline and its gameplay will adapt to different seasons and time of day.

Microid / Tower Five

“With Empire of the Ants, every decision is critical, every action is strategic, and every conquest reflects your ability to explore a world where the tiniest of creatures wield great power,” the game’s press release reads. “Strategy, exploration, battles, and even alliances with local wildlife will be required to overcome the countless challenges that await players.”

Like its Y2K predecessor, the 2024 version Empire of the Ants based on the 1991 novel of the same name (in English translation) by French writer Bernard Verber. (Le Fourmis its title is in the author’s native French.) The first book in a trilogy tells the story of an ant society and a parallel human world in early 21st century Paris, covering the themes of communication, cooperation, environmental impact, and social hierarchy.
