Amazon has always offered free restaurant delivery through Grubhub+ as part of the company’s Prime subscription announced. If you live in the US and pay $139 a year for a Prime subscription, you won’t pay anything for eligible GrubHub orders over $12. You’ll also see lower service fees, 5 percent credit on pickup orders, and exclusive offers.
That works out to $120 a year, according to Amazon. The retail giant previously offered Prime customers a free one-year subscription to GrubHub+, but after it automatically renewed, you had to pay $129 a year on top of your Prime subscription. It now appears as a permanent Prime inclusion.
Amazon’s US customers can access Grubhub.com or the Grubhub app with the “same” ordering experience and prices as GrubHub on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app. Go here to activate the offer Amazon.com/grubhub. In addition to free shipping, Prime members can get $5 off GrubHub orders of $25 or more through June 2.
Although widely used, restaurant delivery services have been controversial. Both restaurants and customers complain that delivery fees are high, and drivers are often underpaid while dealing with heavy workloads. Most tolls don’t go to the driver, so many customers feel the need to add a tip to the already high tolls. There was an agreement in Europe shot recently to classify millions of food delivery program workers as employees.
Amazon’s Prime membership includes other perks like Prime Video and free same-day shipping. However, it recently added an extra $3 a month to get Prime Video ad-free (except for sporting events), and unlimited grocery delivery from Whole Foods or Amazon Fresh costs an extra $10 a month.
